Scoring settings can substantially change player value. In a point-per-reception league, players who consistently catch passes receive additional points, making target volume especially valuable. Running backs involved in the passing game and wide receivers with dependable reception totals may gain value compared with players who rely mainly on rushing yards or touchdowns.
In leagues without reception points, yardage and touchdowns become relatively more important. A low-catch, high-yardage player may be more attractive than in a reception-based format, while a short-area receiver who catches many passes may lose some of his advantage.
Quarterback scoring also matters. Passing touchdown values, interception penalties, bonuses for long plays, and points for rushing production can change the order of quarterbacks.
